Happy Birthday Ganesha! - Chennai, India
On Ganesha’s birthday, a young girl sits at his feet and draws a’ kolam’, a sacred geometric drawing. Removing obstacles to spiritual enlightenment and bestowing luck, devotees worship Ganesh, the elephant-headed Hindu deity before any undertaking. During his annual birthday celebration, he is bathed, adorned with flowers and mango leaves, worshipped with incense, fed his favorite sweets, and paraded around town. Sufficiently appeased, his statue is tossed in a river or body of water.
