Touching Lotus Feet - Kathmandu, Nepal
Red sindhur powder, flower petals, and rice grains honor stone carved lotus feet. In Sanskrit, the word for feet, ‘padam’ has many alternate meanings such as ‘source’ or ‘station’. The lotus flower signifies the blossoming of supreme consciousness. In Eastern philosophy, the term ‘lotus feet’ also represent the spiritual illumination of a deity, saint, or enlightened being. Thus, by touching the feet, a devotee symbolically recognizes consciousness itself as the source of blossoming awareness, and the enlightened being as the one who bestows grace for its unfoldment.
