Hot and Sour Floating Market – Thailand
This woman sells chilis and limes from her ‘floating market’ boat. Before the advent of booming economic development, floating markets were a necessity for people living along extensive waterways in Thailand and other parts of Southeast Asia. The sellers, mostly women, plied the canals in boats loaded with fruit, vegetables, cooked food, and assorted sundries. Large scale construction projects, supermarkets, cars, and roads have severely contributed to the floating markets’ demise.
